Motorcycle Grips for Indian Motorcycles

If you own an Indian motorcycle, then you probably ride that beast so much that the grips wear down fast. Fortunately, its easy to replace motorcycle grips without any specialized tools. You might even want to switch to heated grips at certain times of the year so you can enjoy a warmer ride.

Can you install handlebar grips without using glue?

You can install grips without putting any glue under the rubber. While youll still want to use safety wire under the grips, you can actually use other adhesives in lieu of grip glue. Weatherstrip cement will work with some heated grips, especially if its rated for use in abusive thermal environments. Some people attach heated grips with stronger adhesives. This is a good idea if you never want the black pieces to come off the chrome and you dont ever switch between different handles.

How long will the throttle run with handlebar grips?

If you only ever ride your Indian when wearing gloves, then youll find that a single set of black material will work with your throttle for a long time. This material may become spongy if you use it with a heater, but it should still last. Cold weather can sometimes crack the original grips, so youll want to look for a good set of aftermarket motorcycle heated grips to keep your Indian bike looking great for the long term.

Where do heated spacers draw power from?

Once you slide the black pieces onto your Indian bike, youll find a little bit of wiring coming out of the ends of them. These wires draw electricity from the same electrical system that powers the lights on your motorcycle. You wont need to configure any sort of external battery to get heat out of the handlebars. While you can always switch back to the old grips whenever youd like, you might want to switch the heating system off when youre not using it.

How do burnout-proof coils work?

If your hand grips come with burnout-proof coils, then they feature special heating elements that are designed to keep from breaking at high temperatures. Each connector on them is reinforced with a metallic waffle that keeps them from shattering if they get too warm. You wont need to wear heated gloves with these special handles because they get more than warm enough on their own even though theyre not going to get hot enough to bust apart. Theyre also rated to withstand vibration well.

Why do some throttle side hand grips have holes?

Throttle side hand grips sometimes have holes in both ends because they usually feature a taper so that one side is much more slender than the other. They allow you to retain the original end weights that were on your handlebars when you first got your Indian bike. Some aftermarket handlebar grips come with new weights and protectors as a replacement for the original ones.
