Rolex Submariner 16803

This Rolex Submariner was only in production for four years. The Swiss watchmaker replaced Ref 16803 in 1988. But despite its brief tenure in the Submariner lineup, its distinct design left an impression on the brand's history.

Ref 16803 is a Rolesor watch combining stainless steel and 18-karat yellow gold. The 40-millimeter is predominantly steel. However, gold accents appear on the dial, bezel, crown, and bracelet.

Like other Rolex watches for women and men, Ref 16803 features a signature black dial. A blue variant is also available. Accenting the dark background are luminous hour markings clad in gold. Gold also outlines the watch hands.

Sapphire crystal protects the dial, and a magnifying Cyclops lens improves the visibility of the date window.

Surrounding the dial is a unidirectional bezel. It has a blue or black aluminum insert to match the watch's face and includes a 60-minute scale.

Rounding off the design is Rolex's Oyster bracelet. It's similar to what you get in other Rolex watches for women and men. However, the two-toned design language continues as Rolex replaced the center steel link with gold.
