The Jordan Why Not Zer0.3: Third Time's a Charm

Jordan Why Not Zer0.3.

The Jordan Why Not Zer0.3 is the third installment in the popular line of basketball shoes by NBA superstar Russell Westbrook. The dynamic and hyper-athletic point guard wanted to up his shoe game with a design that matched his off-court style while providing the superior performance of his high-powered, aggressive on-court style.

"Each colorway has a special meaning to Russell and represents how he channels different areas of his life to block out the noise," Senior Designer David Cin told Sports Illustrated. "Russell has a sharp eye for detail both in style and the game itself. He's able to discern very slight tweaks to prototypes he's testing and whether something like a label needs to be loose or stitched down. To really speak to Russell's personality, we had to ensure his bold sense of style came to life throughout the design."

The result is a collection of memorable colorways, each with personal meaning to Westbrook and a shoe built for speed, agility and top performance from the NBA level to the neighborhood gym.

The dynamic and hyper-athletic point guard wanted to up his shoe game with a design that matched his off-court style while providing the superior performance of his high-powered, aggressive on-court style.

The words "Why" and "Not?" are etched into the sole in the front of the right and left shoe, respectively. The shoe features a bold Zoom graphic on the inside of the forefoot, which compliments Westbrook's RW logos on the midfoot and deubré. Each colorway has a unique external-facing tag stitched onto the outside of the shoe at the midfoot.

Performance of the Jordan Why Not Zer0.3

The forefoot has an articulated Nike Zoom Air cushioning system in the sole with horizontal grooves for enhanced explosiveness and linear speed. The outsole design features a decoupled forefoot and heel that allow critical lateral and horizontal flex movement. A TPU shank between the two outsole sections gives it excellent torsional rigidity, which enhances heel-to-toe transitions. Explosiveness and control, two critical aspects of Westbrook's game, are enhanced by the modified herringbone tread.

A double padded collar is separated into two sections for optimal comfort. The lacing runs through nylon loops on the outer shoe with two additional loops on the midfoot interior for stronger lockdown and extra support. The shoe features an exterior TPU Velcro strap that locks down across the tongue at the midfoot to ensure support and containment further. The strap is translucent so as not to distract from the aesthetic design of the shoe. There are mesh panels and ventilation holes throughout the shoe, including on the tongue, inner liner and forefoot for maximum breathability.
