Benjamin Air Pistols
The Benjamin air pistol is a product of the Crosman Corporation, a company responsible for designing, producing, and supplying sport shooting products. The company's product is named for Walter R. Benjamin, who was the first person to introduce a practical air powered rifle in 1882. Presently, there are three models of air pistols manufactured by Crosman.
What calibers do they fire?The air guns are only manufactured to shoot .22 caliber and .177 caliber. These models are the Trail NP (.177), Marauder (.22), and Marauder Woods Walker PCP (.22). There are two other sizes of pellets made.
What is a Nitro Piston?The Nitro Piston is a firing system in which compressed the gas is used to launch the piston rather than a spring. This type of gas propelled method is also called a "gas ram." Some users enjoy this system because it has fewer moving parts, which can mean decreased weight and less noise when fired.
What's the difference between CO2 and PCP?While both the CO2 and Precharged Pneumatic (PCP) pistols use compressed air to fire their pellets, the CO2 is prefilled, while the PCP requires the user to pump air into it until it reaches 2,000 to 3,000 psi.
The Marauder and the Marauder Woods Walker are both PCP versions of the air pistol product line. The Trail NP uses Nitro Piston technology.
What kinds of hunting can you do with these guns?For the most part, air guns are used to hunt small prey such as squirrels, pheasants, rabbits, and other small animals that fall under the classification of small game. It can also be used to exterminate pests such as rats and other rodents. And though it is possible to hunt slightly larger animals with an air gun, the pellets usually don't have enough stopping power to neutralize them with one shot.
What are other air gun activities?These types of pistols can be used for a few other activities such as target shooting and competition shooting. The advantage of using an air pistol for target shooting is that it saves you from having to go to a shooting range. In most cases, there are no regulations prohibiting you from using an air gun in your backyard, while there are regulations for firearms.
