How do you install a cold air intake system?

Installation is as simple as removing your factory air intake from your Mitsubishi Eclipse and replacing it with the new cold air intake; the whole process usually takes less than two hours and requires only basic hand tools and mechanical ability. The tools youll need include the following: Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, air intake upgrade kit, adjustable pliers.

  • Park your Mitsubishi on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and pop the hood.
  • Loosen the bolts on the air intake cover and remove it.
  • Remove the air filter from its housing.
  • Loosen the intake tube clamp, and disconnect the electrical sensors by squeezing the clamps.
  • If your Eclipse has a mass inflow sensor in the tube, now is the time to remove it.
  • Loosen the clamps on the tube, and remove it from the motor.
  • Remove the air filter housing.
  • Install the new housing and other cold air intake components from the kit in the reverse order; make sure that the air flow meter is installed so the arrow is pointing in the direction of the air flow.
  • Take your Mitsubishi for a test drive to make sure the installation was successful.
