Entrada de aire y sensores de suministro de combustible para Mazda Protege

Mazda Protege Sensors

The Mazda Protege is a sedan known for its practicality and good gas mileage. However, if something goes wrong with one of the sensors, it may affect the Protege’s overall performance.

How do you know the Protege’s MAF sensor is faulty?

The MAF sensor monitors how much air enters the engine of your sedan. If it is faulty, you may notice one or more of the following:

  • The gas efficiency of your Mazda is suffering.
  • The car is idling hard.
  • The vehicle will not accelerate like it used to.
  • The tailpipe is emitting black smoke.
  • The car fails an emissions test.
  • A scanner may show diagnostic trouble codes, such as P0103, P0102, or P0103.

To test your sedans MAF sensor, you will need a multimeter and a wire-piercing probe. Turn the multimeter to Volts DC mode and locate the sensors red and white wire. Touch the black lead of the multimeter to the negative terminal on the Mazda Proteges battery, turn the key to the run position, and see if the multimeter is registering between 10 and 12 volts DC while touching the red lead to the wire. If the sensor reads less than 10 to 12 volts DC, you know theres a problem. Reverse the position of the leads, touching the black lead to the black-and-white wire on the sensor to test the ground. Less than 10 to 12 volts DC means the sensor isnt working.

To determine if the sensor is getting a signal, touch the black lead to the negative terminal on the battery and the red lead to the green-and-black wire. The multimeter should read 1.1 volts DC. When you accelerate the engine, the volts DC should increase. If this doesnt happen, youll need a replacement sensor.

How do you install an oxygen sensor in your Protege?

Every car model runs the risk of the oxygen sensor becoming heated and going bad. To remove the sensor and install a replacement in your car, do the following:

  • Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
  • Use a car jack to elevate the vehicle.
  • Exert the appropriate amount of force to remove the HO2S. If it is difficult to remove the sensor, use penetrating oil to provide adequate lubrication.
  • Use a sensor-removal tool to extract the sensor.
  • Reverse the steps to install the sensor in your Mazda, but make sure the mounting boss is tightened to no more than 33 foot-pounds.
How do you replace a crankshaft position sensor?

To remove the Mazda Protege crankshaft position sensor, you can start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Once completed, follow these steps:

  • Access the sensor by removing any drive belts that may be in the way.
  • Remove the oil dipstick tube if you must. In some cases, this step may not be necessary.
  • Remove the bolt that is attached to the sensor.
  • Extract the sensor.
  • Reverse the steps to install the Mazda sensor.
